Solid Biofuels and Solid Recovered Fuels
From fossil fuels to low carbon alternatives, ESG Energy Services are leading the market in the provision of sampling and analytical expertise to the UK energy industry.
Sampling, Preparation and Analysis
ESG have provided sampling and analysis services to producers and users of coal and solid fuels for over fifty years. With the move into producing energy from renewable fuels, we have gained extensive experience in the sampling and analysis of solid biofuels and solid recovered fuels and are now a market leader in the provision of these services in the UK
Working With Regulatory Bodies
ESG have worked closely with OFGEM, the body responsible for issuing and administering the Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) to accredited generators for producing a proportion of their electricity from renewable sources.
We can assist in satisfying OFGEM's requirements for ROCs by providing a consultancy service for
completion of the initial application of the fuel management questionnaire for the "green certificate" and in supplying documented sampling regimes and protocols for a wide range of products as well as providing ongoing Accredited laboratory analysis.
To date, we have tested in excess of fifty different types of material from a wide variety of renewable and recycling industries.
Quality First
ESG were the first UK company to gain UKAS Accreditation to ISO 17025 for sample preparation and analysis of solid biofuels and solid recovered fuels to the appropriate technical CEN Standards (European Committee for Standardization) and these include:
- Sample Preparation
- Total Moisture
- Analysis Moisture
- Ash
- Volatile Matter
- Sulphur
- Calorific Value
- Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen
- Mechanical Durability of Pellets
- Biomass Content by the Dissolution Method
Helping to Set the Standard
We have a long history of sitting on technical committees and being active in the development of standards in relation to solid fuels. This tradition has continued with us sitting on the appropriate committees and being active in contributing sound technical input into the CEN ISO Standards based on our wealth of knowledge and experience.
