CL Voelcker was appointed by Fropus (Lion Park) Ltd, as geoenvironmental consultants on this 38ha site to carry out a complete site investigation and geoenvironmental study.
The commission included desk study, auditing of tenant activities, ground investigation, hydrology and hydrogeology assessment, quantitative risk assessments and an interpretative report. This was followed by design of the remediation strategies, liaison with the regulators and on to technical supervision of the contractor's remediation ensuring the remediation is effected and appropriately validated.
The site investigation works were designed with exploratory locations on a 30 metre grid across the site with additional locations positioned in order to target the potential areas of concern identified through both the desk study and environmental audits of tenant activities.
Between March 2003 and December 2004, over 1.4 million data points have been gathered and more than 40,000 analytical tests on soil and water samples have been conducted to enable the remediation to progress.
Hydrogeological monitoring at the site has also been carried out including monitoring of both the shallow near surface groundwater and the status of the deep groundwater at the site.
Full scale remediation is now complete including groundwater treatment. Development is progressing with some eight hectares of the site occupied.
