ESG enhances asbestos services

Thursday 29 July 2010

Environmental Scientifics Group (ESG), the UK’s leading environmental compliance specialist is very proud to announce that it has now been accredited not only with the screening and identification of asbestos in soils, but with full quantification of asbestos in soils using its own in-house UKAS accredited method.

This allows ESG to now provide the full service of analysis of asbestos in soils.

  • Stage 1 - initial screening for the presence of asbestos
  • Stage 2 – Picking, Weighing and initial quantification of Asbestos containing Material
  • Stage 3 - further quantification using Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM)

The new service is provided at ESG’s newly opened Super Lab based in Bretby, Burton on Trent and is one of the few laboratories that have been awarded UKAS accreditation for full quantification of asbestos in soils.

Additionally, ESG is also UKAS accredited for providing management and refurbishment/demolition surveys in accordance with the latest asbestos survey guidelines. Published on 29 January 2010, HSG 264 contains the most up to date guidelines on surveying, sampling and assessment of asbestos-containing materials in commercial, industrial and domestic properties.

As well as increasing its testing capabilities, earlier this year, ESG increased its servicing capacity with the opening of a fourth bulk analysis laboratory and the ability of offer a 24 hour turnaround time for single samples.

Alex Sleeth, ESG CEO said: “At Environmental Scientifics Group, we are always looking for ways to use our expertise to benefit customers. The latest UKAS accredited services, coupled with the increased capacity from the new laboratory has been well received. In fact, our newly launched 24 hour turnaround on single samples is a service that clients are already finding invaluable.”

ESG through its Soil Mechanics brand were set a tough challenge by RWE npower and met it full on. From the engineer's perspective, it was evident from the start that many parts of the business would need to pull together to achieve the client's demanding programme. Pembroke in November was never going to be easy, but staff on site, in Bridgend and in the labs demonstrated a team commitment to match and on occasions exceed the client's expectations.
