CL Associates and Voelcker Consultants Merge

Wednesday 08 April 2009

The UK based consultancy, CL Associates has merged with Voelcker Consultants under the new name of CL Voelcker in a move designed to consolidate the consultancy offering of Environmental Scientifics Group (ESG), its parent company, into one business division.

The combined company provides the opportunity to expand its offering in the Environmental, Construction and Development markets.

Roger Clark, CL Voelcker Director said: "Though we have been working in partnership with each other for the last 3 years, this formal merger will enable us to offer a wider spectrum of complementary services and provide a progressive approach to several key stages of a client's project, covering the planning, design and construction phases. Moreover, this can be achieved much more effectively under one identity. The existing management teams from both companies will remain in place."

CL Associates was established as a consultancy in 1989 covering all aspects of geotechnical engineering, seismology, soil dynamics, contaminated land, waste management, pollution control, environmental planning and permitting, environmental impact monitoring and risk assessment.

Voelcker Consultants has had a longer history having been formed in 1863 to provide specialist services in soil and landscape science, operating nationwide in construction and the public sector, primarily on restoration, soil improvement and landscape projects. The firm's involvement with the broader environment and contaminated land dates from the 1950s and evolved out of work undertaken in the field of agricultural science.

The combined consultancy counts key Public Authorities, Developers, Landscape Architects and Construction companies amongst its clients.

Clark continues, "It gives me great pleasure to announce the merger of two strong performing and well known consultancies. I have no doubt that their respective organic growth will be augmented by the contribution of the merger and will place CL Voelcker in a positive position to deliver continued growth into the future."

ESG through its Soil Mechanics brand were set a tough challenge by RWE npower and met it full on. From the engineer's perspective, it was evident from the start that many parts of the business would need to pull together to achieve the client's demanding programme. Pembroke in November was never going to be easy, but staff on site, in Bridgend and in the labs demonstrated a team commitment to match and on occasions exceed the client's expectations.
