Stockpile Management
It is important that stockpiled soils are carefully managed to ensure good planting conditions.
Stockpiled soils are likely to have been subjected to a variety of disturbances and the resulting quality of the stockpile is often unknown.
Stockpiled soils typically display one or more of the following problems: contamination with subsoil or non-soil rubbish, structural degradation, compaction, anaerobism (oxygen depletion)/ poor aeration, adverse moisture content, excessive vegetation content.
To avoid potentially stressful planting conditions, these problems should be identified and addressed.
